Tis’ the Season of Service
R afa Rojas, President of Lely High School Key Club, prepares a meal
at St. Matthews house, a facility to house homeless families in Naples, Florida.
During this holiday season, it is important for Key Clubbers across the District to
serve to their highest potential. It is easy for many to get swept away in excitement
this time of year, but it is dire to keep the passion for giving strong, for not
everyone is nearly as fortunate to have a roof over their heads, a meal to eat, or
to even have a friend. Planning a project during the rush of events in the winter
may seem tough, so here are some project ideas to stay inspired this holiday
season.
Card Making
Card making is a great project to
incorporate into a club meeting. Key
Clubbers can make and decorate
holiday cards for members of your
community or donate to your local
Children’s Miracle Network hospital.
Write encouraging messages with
a wishful holiday greeting on each
card and deliver as necessary. Remember
to sign each card as “From
the members of our local Key Club.”
Serving up the Grub
Donate your club’s labor for stocking
shelves at your local food pantry, or
serving dinner to the less fortunate
at a nearby soup kitchen. This is
one of the fastest and best ways to
see the difference in the faces of
each and every life you’ll touch. If
your club wishes to go above and
beyond, run a collection drive for
nonperishable goods. For more information,
Coats for Kids
Keeping warm in the winter months
is something many of us take for
granted. The same luxury, though,
is tragically out of reach for some
children—even in your own neighborhood.
Before the coldness sets in,
collect new or gently-used coats from
Key Clubbers. Then, contact a local
homeless shelter or social service
office to ensure that your donated
coats go to children in need. Have
convenient drop-off locations at
schools, stores, etc. in your area, and
get your whole community involved!
This could also be a great project to
share with your local K-family!
