Jubilee celebrations
About 400 people joined in a Parish tea party to
celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The
weather just held off and there was a truly festive
atmosphere. An enormous gateway covered in flags
marked the entrance to the party, including the
special Jubilee Standard.
Many people got into the spirit of the day, and were decked out
in red, white and blue. Music from the 1950’s added to the
atmosphere. Delicious cream teas, made by the team at the
Community Centre were served by a hard working band of
volunteers and naturally, washed down with excellent cups of tea
- china cups only for St Pierrais!
The Youth Club created a fun and safe environment for children
on the village green. Lots of smiling faces enjoyed the bouncy
castle and the ever popular zorbs kept many children amused for
hours as they rolled around and around, guided by patient youth
club members.
On the Monday a number of people joined the loyal toast
at a vin d’honneur for Her Majesty.
The West Show
the job! (Victor Lam)
Almost 10,000 people attended the West Show on 7th and 8th July,
despite horrendous weather and subsequently a very muddy field at
Manor Farm. That being said, the atmosphere was fantastic and the show
was a huge success. The crew who organised the weekend did a sterling
job, by shredding and laying tonnes of woodchippings, they were able to
create walkways in the worst areas and the fantastic variety of stalls,
displays and entertainment created a buzz around the showground.
The main arena drew big crowds, particularly for the Dancing Diggers and Rockin' Horses
shows, while the donkey chariot races and Cyril the Squirrel provided extra entertainment.
The horticulture tent was resplendent with local produce stunning flowers and the Genuine
Jersey Village was very popular, with constant musical entertainment as well as an array of
locally made goods to buy. The Cattle Show and horse jumping made it a true country show.
All in all we proved that West most certainly
is best!
