News from St Peter’s Parish Church
In the last edition of Les Clefs I said that any day now the
scaffolding would be going up on the church spire. Well, as you will
have seen – it didn’t! There have been several delays involving the
engineers and contractors, however we
really do expect to start work any day now.
As part of the works the church clock will
have to be switched off. So keep your eyes
peeled and your ears alert!
As I write, we are about to celebrate our
Patronal Festival – St Peter’s Day. I really do
like Peter. Of all the disciples whose names
we have passed down to us over the
years through the pages of the Bible, it is
Peter who seems the most like us. He is
always asking awkward questions,
often getting things wrong, and yet being ready to be with
his master, Jesus, wherever he was to lead them. Despite all
his human frailty Jesus chose him for a most important job:
‘You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and
the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you
the keys to the kingdom of heaven.’ (Matthew 16:18-19)
That was a tremendous call for the very human Peter. It is
good for us to ask what our own call in life may be.
St Peter’s Church Gift Day
Once again we are looking for your help and support for
our annual Gift Day. Our commitments and running costs
mean that each week we need to raise about £1,200. This
is to maintain a living church at the heart of our Parish
community. This week alone we have had a baptism, a very
large funeral and a wonderful wedding. These services were
not for immediate churchgoers, but were for members of
the wider community of St Peter’s. The church is for ALL!
Our Gift Day is on Saturday 8th September and I will be in
church between 2pm and 5pm. However, if you would like
to use the white addressed envelope enclosed with this
magazine, you can post a donation to the church at any
time. May I thank you in anticipation for your support!
May God bless you,
