Counselling at Health Services<br />

Student Health Services <strong>of</strong>fers free<br />

individual counselling to all registered<br />

<strong>student</strong>s. We have a multidisciplinary team<br />

<strong>of</strong> psychiatrists, psychotherapists and social<br />

workers who work with the varying needs<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>student</strong>s. Counselling is available year<br />

round. Maturing and growing emotionally<br />

can be a difficult process. We’re here to help<br />

you find solutions during these stressful<br />

times. Don’t let your medical or emotional<br />

concerns affect your acdemic success or well<br />

The <strong>University</strong> Health Insurance Plan<br />

(UHIP) was created to <strong>of</strong>fer affordable<br />

insurance to pay the cost <strong>of</strong> the hospital and<br />

medical services international <strong>student</strong>s and<br />

their families might need to maintain their<br />

health while at a participating <strong>University</strong> in<br />

<strong>Ontario</strong>. Signing up for UHIP coverage is<br />

mandatory for all international <strong>student</strong>s and<br />

the fee is included in the year’s tuition. The<br />

plan covers most <strong>of</strong> what OHIP (<strong>Ontario</strong><br />

Health Insurance Plan) covers, as well costs<br />

usually covered by an extended health care<br />

plan.<br />

Students have 30 days from the date<br />

<strong>of</strong> your dependents’ arrival in Canada to<br />

enrol them in UHIP. If they miss this date,<br />

dependents are subject to a $500 late fee<br />

and are back dated to their date <strong>of</strong> arrival in<br />

Canada.<br />

Non-resident Canadian Students<br />

must to enrol in UHIP until they are<br />

Where do I print my UHIP card?<br />

You will receive an email sent to your<br />

<strong>Western</strong> account directing you to login to<br />

a website. Any questions can be emailed to<br />

New for 2012: USC Dental Plan<br />

Starting this fall, <strong>student</strong>s will have Dental Coverage through the USC<br />

Health Plan.<br />

The cost, which is included in the ancillary fee, is $114 (for 12 month<br />

coverage. Students could add their family (spouse and/or dependants) for<br />

an additional fee <strong>of</strong> $171.<br />

Students with or without dental coverage can opt-out <strong>of</strong> the dental plan<br />

during the first 30 days <strong>of</strong> September and then be refunded the $114<br />

(which must be paid at the time tuition is due.)<br />

Dental benefit provides coverage for:<br />

100% diagnostic and preventative services<br />

80% fillings and minor restorative<br />

80% anesthesia<br />

80% peridontal scaling<br />

80% removal <strong>of</strong> impacted wisdom teeth<br />

10% root canal treatment<br />

10% periodontics (other than scaling)<br />

$750 annual maximum<br />

All full-time undergrads are automatically<br />

enrolled in the USC Extended Benefit Health<br />

Plan, and are assessed a fee <strong>of</strong> $100.39 for<br />

this plan upon registration. The Plan is<br />

effective from September 1st to August 31st,<br />

each year, and <strong>of</strong>fers benefits specifically<br />

designed for <strong>student</strong> needs.<br />

Students who are covered under an<br />

equivalent extended benefit health care plan<br />

(in addition to your standard provincial<br />

coverage) may choose to “opt-out” <strong>of</strong> the<br />

USC plan. These fees must be paid upfront<br />

and will be reimbursed if you opt out.<br />
