That means that we show all the latest releases, just a few weeks after they debut in first-run houses. Tickets are only $4.99 per person and $3.50 on Tuesdays, making us the best deal in town. Kids are just $3.50 every show. The box office (located in front of the McKellar Theatre) opens one half hour before show-time. If you’re not in front of your computer and you want to find out what’s playing, check out The Gazette, the London Free Press, or call the MovieLine at 519-661-3616. Hours reduced on holiday weekends, Reading Week, and spring/summer term. Student Membership All current Western undergraduate (full-time and part-time) and full-time graduate students pay a Campus Recreation fee as part of their non-tuition ancillary fees, which provides them access and membership to some of the country’s best recreation facilities, programs and services. Students are required to provide their valid Western Student ID card to take part in the diverse opportunities available to enhance their learning experience and lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Student memberships include: • access and use of the Western Student Recreation Centre • a wide variety of aerobic fitness classes • fitness/lane swims, recreational swims and aqua fitness • drop-in gymnasia activities such as basketball, badminton, volleyball, futsal • squash court use and reservations • use of the 19,000 square feet of weight and cardio space Members also receive preferred rates for: • Intramural Sports League programs • Instructional programs in aquatics, dance, mind-body fitness • 15+ Recreational Sports Clubs • Wellness services such as personal training and massage therapy • Locker and towel services Western Student Recreation Centre The Western Student Recreation Centre is the home of Campus Recreation operations and the hub of activity for all students and members of the Western community. Since opening its doors in January 2009, the Western Student Recreation Centre has in excess of 3,500 visits a day during the academic year. A source of student pride and leadership, the centre was a result of student support towards the capital and occupancy costs of the new centre, representing one of the largest student gifts of its kind in Canada. The close to 160,000 sq. ft. facility includes: • 5 gymnasia (3 hardwood court, 2 multipurpose rubber floors) • 5 squash courts • 50 metre, 8-lane pool with two bulkheads • 3 multi-purpose hardwood studio spaces • 19,000 sq. ft. of weight and cardio space • Lounge space with WiFi, televisions and table tennis area STUDENT GUIDE 2012-2013 Intramural Sports Programs Campus Recreations boasts one of the largest intramural programs in Canada. A full range of options from the strictly recreational to the very competitive levels exist in numerous sports allowing Western students to benefit from some of the best experiences in student life. Participation in Intramural Sports leagues, whether you sign up as a team or as a “free agent” individual, is a great way to meet new people, learn or refine skills, stay active and be involved in Campus Life. Many student leadership opportunities also exist through officiating and league management. Aquatics Campus Recreation offers a diverse, safe, and active aquatics program for participants of all ages and abilities. Lane and fitness swims, aqua fitness classes, water-jogging, recreational and family swim times, swim lessons and technique improvement all available to wet your appetite. Advanced aquatics instructional and leadership courses, such as Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard Service, Standard First Aid and CPR, and AED are also available through program registration. Fitness & Wellness Achieving your fitness and educational goals can be enhanced through active participation in a huge variety of fun, friendly, and challenging classes, ranging from yoga to step, boot camp to Pilates and more, all geared to provide you with an opportunity to develop, grow, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our certified staff have the skills and enthusiasm to get you on track, no matter what your fitness level, interest, goals and schedule. Try fitness classes, massage therapy, mind-body fitness classes, personal training, weight-cardio training, nutrition counselling and more. Instructional Programs Explore, learn and develop skills while meeting new people and having fun. Campus Rec offers many instructional programs to keep your days and nights active, fun and full of enjoyment. Through courses and clinics, certification programs, a wide variety of dance programming, special interest courses, squash instruction and lessons, be sure to check the web site for details and register early. Drop-In Recreation Drop-In recreation is self-directed and regulated by participants. It offers students and members the flexibility to try new sports, sharpen their skills in their preferred sport, or simply grab a few friends for a game of pickup. There are plenty of hours dedicated to informal drop-in recreation in badminton, basketball, futsal, table tennis, volleyball, squash and more. View the schedule online or pick up a copy. Recreation Sports Clubs Campus Recreation facilitates over 15 different student sport clubs, including a multitude of martial arts programs, the triathlon club, synchronized swimming, kayak club and much more. A Campus Recreation Sports Club is a sanctioned organization established by students that provides a terrific opportunity for all Campus Recreation members to participate in a specific sport or physical activity. Sports Clubs are voluntary and enhance the University experience, emphasizing socialization, instruction and skill development as well as student leadership and competition. Employment Students truly are the lifeblood of the recreation experiences at Western. Campus Recreation represents one of the largest student employers on campus with over 350 different student leadership roles and responsibilities. The Campus Recreation environment is a great place to learn, grow, and develop your skill set while enhancing your resume and adding some income to your pockets. If you thrive in a fast-paced and fun environment with an emphasis on great customer service, and look for rewarding challenges consider becoming a part of our team. Most roles are filled prior to the following academic year, with postings in February; however, many opportunities, such as intramural referees are required at the beginning of each term.
