Practice your spoken English! Conversation<br />
Circles and Groups are <strong>of</strong>fered throughout<br />
the year to help improve spoken English<br />
skills, to enhance confidence when speaking<br />
conversational English, to increase knowledge<br />
<strong>of</strong> Canadian culture and to provide the<br />
opportunity to meet people from all over the<br />
world. This program is open to international<br />
<strong>student</strong>s and their spouses or partners.<br />
Registration takes place at the beginning <strong>of</strong> each<br />

The International and Exchange Student<br />
Centre <strong>of</strong>fers many exciting events throughout<br />
the year for all international <strong>student</strong>s<br />
(undergraduate, graduate, and exchange) and<br />
their families. Group trips to Niagara Falls and<br />
Toronto are a great opportunity for <strong>student</strong>s<br />
who want to explore Canada and learn more<br />
about their new surroundings. Regular social<br />
events are also planned for each term, including<br />
group potlucks and outing to local events and<br />
attractions. IESC hosts regular gatherings at<br />
the International and Exchange Student Centre<br />

Financial Support for<br />
International Learning<br />
<strong>Western</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers a variety <strong>of</strong> scholarships<br />
and awards to support <strong>student</strong>s who<br />
participate in international learning<br />

In 2011-12 <strong>Western</strong> created the<br />
Global Opportunities Awards, to support<br />
<strong>student</strong>s engaging in international learning<br />
experiences and encourage all <strong>student</strong>s<br />
to become globally minded citizens.<br />
Through this program <strong>Western</strong> distributed<br />
$200,000 to <strong>student</strong>s going on international<br />
exchanges, field study courses, service<br />

in a new academic setting and expand your<br />
horizons on many levels. <strong>Western</strong> is committed<br />
to internationalization and encourages all<br />

Opportunities at <strong>Western</strong><br />
<strong>Western</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers a wide range <strong>of</strong> different<br />
international opportunities to <strong>student</strong>s, including<br />
various overseas volunteering, academic exchange<br />
and study abroad experiences. Students can also<br />
volunteer on campus with <strong>Western</strong>’s international<br />
community or get involved with one <strong>of</strong> the global<br />
issues clubs, NGOs or cultural clubs on campus.<br />

International Peer Connection<br />

The International Peer Connection (IPC)<br />
program connects new international <strong>student</strong>s<br />
with Peer Guides who are current <strong>Western</strong><br />
<strong>student</strong>s. The program <strong>of</strong>fers information,<br />
friendly support, involvement in <strong>Western</strong><br />
activities and a link to <strong>Western</strong> services and<br />
the larger London community. It provides<br />
international <strong>student</strong>s with meaningful contact<br />
to help them feel comfortable in their new<br />
environment and making the most out <strong>of</strong> their<br />
experience at <strong>Western</strong>.<br />
