WGBH, Boston’s NPR ® Station
on your HD radio at 89.7 HD1 or on 96.3 in Back Bay/Beacon Hill
Independent Journalism, Celtic Music and All That Jazz
89.7 WGBH is expanding its news service to offer New England
listeners more choices and more voices.
“We’ll have a new schedule in place for 89.7 that focuses
on news and information,” says Radio General Manager John Voci,
“as our classical programming migrates to the new 99.5 All
Classical.”
The new 89.7 will be a leading source for perspective and
analysis in Boston, providing valuable journalistic context from
diverse viewpoints that helps us all better understand the issues of
the day. “We’ll draw on resources right here in our Brighton studios,”
says John, “from radio’s The World and the Web’s Forum Network
to television’s Greater Boston, Frontline, Nova and American
Experience. We’ll also build on the strong foundation of independent
journalism and local flavor we’ve established with our Cape and
Islands NPR station, WCAI.”
You’ll still find your jazz and Celtic favorites on 89.7 WGBH,
alongside A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. However,
we’re taking folk and blues (genres available elsewhere on the
radio dial) off our air to make room for a broader focus on analysis
and perspective. We’re proud of the contributions 89.7 hosts
Naomi Arenberg, Brendan Hogan and Brad Paul have made to
these genres, and we’ll certainly miss their voices on 89.7.
As this issue of ’GBH, The Members’ Guide went to press, plans
for the new 89.7 WGBH were coming together. We’ll continue to
finetune our lineup in the days ahead to bring you the very best
on 89.7. For the most up-to-date information, please visit
