Reinvigorating Classical Radio in Boston
Boston has a new radio station this month as WGBH acquires
WCRB, preserving a full-time classical service that otherwise would
have switched to another format. We’re delighted to have 99.5
All Classical join the WGBH family!
As this issue of ’GBH, The Members’ Guide went to press, plans
for the new 99.5 All Classical were being finetuned. For the very
latest, please visit 995allclassical.org. Here’s what we can say:
• We’ll have friendly and welcoming hosts like Cathy Fuller
on 99.5 All Classical who will bring their passion to the new
service, inviting you to share their love of this music.
• We’ll continue to enrich our classical lineup with live performances
from our Fraser Performance Studio here in Brighton,
spotlighting both emerging local talent and top music
masters from around the world.
• We’ll dig into WGBH’s unparalleled archive of classical music,
performed and recorded in our studios and throughout
New England.
• For maximum reach, 99.5 also will be heard online at
995allclassical.org, on Internet radios, on mobile devices,
and on HD radios at 89.7 HD2.
• We’ll build on WGBH’s partnerships in this most classical of
cities, from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and New England
Conservatory to Handel and Haydn Society (whose Messiah
is featured on our cover) and Longy School of Music, to name
just a few.
“WGBH’s strength in classical music is unmatched,” says Radio
General Manager John Voci, “going back to our very first broadcast
from Boston’s Symphony Hall nearly 60 years ago. The launch of the
new 99.5 All Classical is an exciting milestone for classical music
in Boston.”
Thanks for tuning in, and for letting us know what you think
(membersonly@wgbh.org) as we continue to finetune the
