<strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> also saw another<br />
successful nesting season for the California Least Tern.<br />
The small bird, a federally endangered species, makes the airfield its<br />
breeding grounds between April and September. The <strong>Airport</strong> Authority<br />
works closely with US Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the birds as<br />
they nest and feed at the airport. In <strong>2012</strong>, there were 130 least tern<br />
nests on airport property.<br />
