DETAILED SITE INVENTORY +
ANALYSIS PRIOR TO
DEVELOPMENT
Suitability studies are important for the
sustainability of a project because they
ensure we understand the impacts a
development will have on a site. They
help assure that a project fits into a
wider, more regional concept or plan and
does not compromise future restoration
efforts.
The inventory and analysis help to
prevent incorrect uses for the land and
help the city identify the most
sustainable use for it. It makes no sense
to build a house on land that floods
regularly, for example. There is also little
logic in building a wild game reserve in a
location without wild game, or build a
wetland in an area that receives little to
no water. To determine how best to use
the land that is dedicated to the Parks
Department, the City shall require a
detailed inventory and site analysis prior
to the area’s development regardless of
whether the development is to be for a
building, a formal park, or even a
restoration area.
Site inventory and analysis will support
the community’s goal to balance the
need for growth with the maintenance
and improvement of the environment.
