14 The EYES Have it - The World of Ron Cameron What happens when an artist has so much energy that one medium is just not enough? For Ron Cameron that energy explodes into music, clothing, skateboards, murals and so much more. Coming from Sacramento Ron was the consummate California kid. A child of the suburbs, Ron lived with his mother, sister and dog. He discovered music and skateboards. He began designing all things skateboard while still in his teens. He was one of the founding members of RVCA Clothing. “As a kid it was punk, thrift and 60’s psychedelic – those were my influences,” said Ron. Becoming a professional skateboarder carried Ron to Southern California and points around the world. After moving to Southern California, Ron began painting murals. His distinctive “EYES” Pattern began to merge in the 1990s. This pattern shows the 60’s psychedelic influence. The pattern evokes the wavy, pop colors of the Laugh-In era. The “EYES” can be seen in Ron’s recent mural work at BAR in Palm Springs as well as his paintings. Ron’s easy manner and pulse on the local scene makes him a much sought after Dj. The Way Out is a part of his dj gig. As Ron states “The Way Out was specifically created for my solo art show at EPIDEMIC Gallery in December 2011, not so coincidentally called The Way Out. I began incorporating the music of my skateboard years. This evolved into the backbone of a developing radio show. I expect to launch The Way Out on local LA radio in the near future.” Not enough? Ron was a consultant in the design of the Palm Springs Skateboard Park. His latest clothing line, Nothing is Cool, is ready to launch. And his acting career has Ron thinking of moving to LA. “I’ve loved acting since I was a kid, but I just started studying over the past 8 years, primarily with Actors Studio member Wendy Girard.” said Ron. “I enjoy acting. I want to take this part of my life to the next level. LA is calling out to me.” Whether Ron heads to LA or remains in the Coachella Valley will have little impact on Ron’s prolific artistic career. “I was born to create. Here. There. It does not matter. 15 ANNUAL SPRING LUNCHEON AND FASHION SHOW TO BENEFIT STROKE RECOVERY CENTER PALM SPRINGS – Stroke Recovery Center’s annual Spring Luncheon and Auxiliary Fashion show will take place on April 3, <strong>2014</strong>, from 11:30 am to 2 pm at the Palm Springs home of Marilyn Hirshleifer, widow of the Center’s founder, Dr. Irving Hirshleifer. Fashions will be provided by The Wardrobe, a hip, vintage boutique located in Palm Springs, with a performance by Derrik Lewis at the piano. “This is the time for us to get together with long-time friends and our newest supporters, and get up to date on the latest fashions and recent happenings at Stroke Recovery Center,” says CEO Beverly Greer. “We welcome auxiliary members, as well as guests who wish to become supporters and friends.
