Granite<br />

Granite is widespread <strong>in</strong> the Eastern Desert and it has many colors (Red,<br />

P<strong>in</strong>k, Gray and Black and it varies from the f<strong>in</strong>e‐gra<strong>in</strong>ed to coarse‐gra<strong>in</strong>ed)<br />

The f<strong>in</strong>est species can be found <strong>in</strong> (The Area of Al Masalla <strong>in</strong> the City of<br />

<strong>Aswan</strong> – Al Salakhana – The Waterfal (Al Shalaal – Al Koroor ‐ Suhail<br />

Island) 0<br />

<strong>Aswan</strong> granite is be<strong>in</strong>g used from the days of ancient Egyptians, and is<br />

used after it is sawed, cut and polished <strong>in</strong> the facades, stairs, and tiles, The<br />

Broken granite is used <strong>in</strong>stead of the gravel <strong>in</strong> construction.<br />

Proven reserves are 700 million square meter<br />

Marble<br />

Marble <strong>in</strong> <strong>Aswan</strong> and The Red Sea is located the Areas of (Al Allaqi ‐<br />

Haimour – Al Qulaib ‐ Om Arkah – Amerkab Palace – Om Marah ‐ Water<br />

Valley ‐ Soldier Valley‐ and Dagheeg Valley).<br />

Expected reserves are about 150 million square meter.<br />

Raw construction materials<br />

Limestone<br />

They are sedimentary rocks which are abundantly found <strong>in</strong> <strong>Aswan</strong>, can be<br />

found <strong>in</strong> the areas of (Fateera ‐ Karkar ‐ Kalabsha <strong>in</strong> the hill of Sen Al<br />

kadab)<br />

The estimated potential reserves are found to be more than 300 million<br />

tons<br />

Sandstone: ‐<br />

Sandstone is abundant <strong>in</strong> the governorate of <strong>Aswan</strong> <strong>in</strong> the Eastern and<br />

Western Sahara, and it is used <strong>in</strong> construction, as an alternative to the Red<br />

Brick.<br />

White sand: ‐<br />

Canbefound<strong>in</strong>theroodbetweenIdfuandMarsaAlam,anditisused<strong>in</strong><br />

the manufactur<strong>in</strong>g of glass.<br />

Theestimated potential reserves are about 500 thousand tons.<br />

Sand and Gravel: ‐<br />

Can be found around <strong>Aswan</strong> ,Lake Nasser, areas of the waterfall, Idfu and<br />

Abu Hargel.<br />

Gypsum and Enhraid: ‐<br />

Can be found <strong>in</strong> the areas on the coast of the Red Sea.
