Teenage pregnancy <strong>and</strong> sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)<br />

Grenada’s record of total births <strong>in</strong> the year 2000 revealed that 17% (308) were of teenage motherhood,<br />

there were 5 new cases recorded each year. 18 From 1984-2001, there were 106 recorded <strong>AIDS</strong> related<br />

Conclusion<br />

Given the above, it becomes apparent that up to the present time no study has been undertaken to<br />

exam<strong>in</strong>e the relationship <strong>between</strong> <strong>drug</strong> <strong>use</strong> <strong>and</strong> ab<strong>use</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong> <strong>in</strong> Grenada. <strong>The</strong> present study<br />

therefore had the ma<strong>in</strong> objective exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g this relationship <strong>and</strong> identify<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>terventions that target <strong>drug</strong> <strong>use</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong>.<br />
