The Department <strong>of</strong> Environmental Engineering (DTU Environment) conducts<br />
science-based engineering research within four sections:<br />
Water Resources Engineering, Urban Water Engineering,<br />
Residual Resource Engineering and Environmental Chemistry & Microbiology.<br />
The department dates back to 1865, when Ludvig August Colding, the<br />
founder <strong>of</strong> the department,<br />
gave the first lecture on sanitary engineering as<br />
response to the cholera epidemics in Copenhagen in the late 1800s.<br />
