Bemerton Sure Start Children’s Centre
which was completed late 2004. A range
of services for parents and children
under-five is being delivered from this
new -one of the borough's network of
Sure Start
Children's Centres. The services provided
also supports parents who wish to enter
the labour market.
The extension of the nursery play area at
the rear was subject to discussion and
consultation with Bemerton TMO and
residents. Initially, some tenants
opposed the loss of public open space.
There would be the possibility of
compensating for this loss by extending
the grassed area on the far side where
there is a wide concrete strip around the
base of housing block opposite. There
are two other play spaces for children on
the estate; Groundwork has recently
upgraded one of these.
Other matters include the new Bingfield
Medical Centre that will occupy the site of
a former community centre. When
opened (2005) two GPs will move from
single practices in the area.
The North King’s Cross Neighbour-hood
Management Project currently work in
this area, engaging with local
communities to secure better service
delivery. Their activities can be expected
to improve the local environment.
