Caledonian ward speed management Category: Transport and streetscape Sub-category: Road safety Priority: 1 - High Approx cost: £90,000 Funds secured: £0 To implement measures to address any speeding issues that may be occuring following the implementation of the borough wide 20mph speed limit scheme. Suggested minor civil engineering measures such as road narrowing and non-physical measures such as vehicle activated signs. It is suggested £30K be allowed for each road. In particular, the following streets would be prioritised: Hemingford Road, Wharfdale Road and Copenhagen Street. The recently introduced 20mph limit will be most effective if any areas of non-compliance are highlighted and remedial measures undertaken. As part of the review of the borough 20mph limit scheme speed surveys are being undertaken postimplementation to establish which roads have speed limits which are not complying with the new limit and identify measures to improve this. . 24 June 2013 Page 34
Cally Arts Project Category: Community facilities Sub-category: Arts Priority: 1 - High Approx cost: £50,000 Funds secured: £0 Delivering local regeneration through arts development in the Caledonian ward. Projects may include: * Cally Calls (with University of the Arts London - £15k) - Seven artists will be paired with seven individuals who live and work in 'The Cally'. Some might have a lifelong relationship with the area, some a more recent one. They will between them form an unscientific representative sampling of age, stage and perspective, and individually each hold a unique knowledge of this place. Each pairing will walk and talk 'The Cally' and attempt to distill a definition of place. The artists will bring these unique perspectives to a public outcome through a series of artworks in a public exhibition at the heart of the Cally Festival. * Beautify Bemerton Estate art project (£20k) - An artist/facilitator will work with a group of young people who live on the Estate to create a piece of three dimensional art which will stand on the corner of Caledonian Road and Copenhagen Street, on the edge of the Estate. Recycling and re-using is a key message, so the piece could incorporate recycled, or 'up-cycled' materials. The piece should have a demonstrable link to the themes and exhibitions of Wellcome Collection, whilst allowing the project participants to express their own ideas and perspectives on these themes. * Development of an arts strategy for 'The Cally' (£15k) - Identification of the highest priority activities to deliver benefits for the local community through further arts initiatives. To help develop the local identity of 'The Cally' through artistic expression and local participation. 24 June 2013 Page 35
