Delivering local regeneration through arts development
in the Caledonian ward. Projects may include:
* Cally Calls (with University of the Arts London -
£15k) -
Seven artists will be paired with seven individuals who
live and work in 'The Cally'. Some might have a lifelong
relationship with the area, some a more recent
one. They will between them form an unscientific
representative sampling of age, stage and
perspective, and individually each hold a unique
knowledge of this place. Each pairing will walk and talk
'The Cally' and attempt to distill a definition of place.
The artists will bring these unique perspectives to a
public outcome through a series of artworks in a public
exhibition at the heart of the Cally Festival.
* Beautify Bemerton Estate art project (£20k) - An
artist/facilitator will work with a group of young people
who live on the Estate to create a piece of three
dimensional art which will stand on the corner of
Caledonian Road and Copenhagen Street, on the
edge of the Estate. Recycling and re-using is a key
message, so the piece could incorporate recycled, or
'up-cycled' materials. The piece should have a
demonstrable link to the themes and exhibitions of
Wellcome Collection, whilst allowing the project
participants to express their own ideas and
perspectives on these themes.
* Development of an arts strategy for 'The Cally'
(£15k) - Identification of the highest priority activities to
deliver benefits for the local community through further
arts initiatives.
To help develop the local identity of 'The Cally'
through artistic expression and local participation.
