BOOKS 4 KIDS:
JLM MEMBERS HELP TO BREAK A WORLD RECORD!

On October 3 JLM members helped break the world record
for the largest shared reading experience! As part of the Read for the Record
event, over 400,000 people world-wide read the classic book “Corduroy” to
children of all ages. 2008 marks the 40 th Anniversary of this book written by
Don Freeman.
This was an auspicious start to our 2008 B4K year! Sustainer Lisa Taylor helped
facilitate a partnership between the Minnesota Literacy Council and JLM to make
this event a success. JLM members read to children from kindergarten to fifth
grade at three Minneapolis schools. Best of all, each child received their own
personal copy of “Corduroy” to take home and read again and again. The teachers
and children were very positive about the experience and our volunteers gave it a
“thumbs up!” Thanks to all who participated.
