NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION (PK-12) If you have a child that is new to the school district and would like to register for the 2011-2012 school year, please contact the school on or after the date listed below. If you have questions in the interim, please call the administrative office between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at 330-876-2810. Fees are established by the Board of Education and cover only partial costs of consumable materials used by a student. Student fees are listed below: maximum fee for families, grades K-8 will be $50.00. Student fees should be paid prior to September 30, 2011. ALL SCHOOL FEES WILL BE WAIVED FOR STUDENTS WHO SIGN UP AND QUALIFY FOR THE FREE OR REDUCED PRICE BREAKFAST/LUNCH PROGRAM. BES/BMS (K-8) $20.00 BHS (9-12) (see student handbook) SUPPLY LISTS AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION, PARENTS/GUARDIANS WILL NEED TO PRESENT THE FOLLOWING: birth certificate, immunization records, custody papers if applicable and proof of residency: copy of current utility record and copy of mortgage or lease agreement. K-5 student supply lists are available online: Select School - Supply List. Elementary teacher/student list will be posted August 19, 2011 at the school and online by student Id #. Should you have any specific questions please feel free to call 330.876.2810. IF YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE PICKED UP OR DROPPED OFF AT THEIR PLACE OF RESIDENCE (HOME), AN “ALTERNATE BUS FORM” IS REQUIRED TO BE ON FILE AT THE SCHOOL. FORMS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE, AT EACH SCHOOL OFFICE, IN THIS CALENDAR (LAST PAGE) OR BY CALLING 330-876-2810. Alternative bus requests will become effective up to 48 hours after the form is filed with the transportation office and approved by the building principal. Students are allowed one pickup and one drop off location. The pickup location may be different than the drop off location. Routes for the 2011-2012 school year will be posted online mid August. Joseph Badger Food Service Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Section 205 of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 – Equity in School Lunch Pricing is now requiring schools to charge an average lunch price equal to or more than the difference between the reimbursement for a free and paid lunch. In other words, the federal government is requiring all school districts to raise lunch prices. This increase in breakfast/lunch pricing is federally driven not driven by local school districts throughout the country. Breakfast/lunch prices for the 2011-2012 school year Breakfast Lunch Elementary PK – 4 th Grade 85¢ $1.85 Middle School 5 th – 8 th Grade $1.10 $2.10 High School 9 th – 12 th Grade $1.10 $2.10 Reduced All Grades 30¢ 40¢ academically, are well behaved and make fewer visits to the nurse. All students receive free breakfast during OAT/OGT testing. Cereal or cereal bar and yogurt or the hot menu item is offered daily along with milk and a choice of fruit or juice. CAFETERIA ACCOUNTS Students are requested to prepay for meals and the school continues to allow any student to charge up to $10.00. Payments may be made by mail, placed in a payment box located across from the principals’ office and in the cafeteria, and ONLINE at www.mynutrikids.com. Remember to include student’s name and account number on all payments. The Joseph Badger Cafeteria will continue to utilize NutriKids Point of Sale Software. Parents will be able to view a 30 day purchase history, check account balance, and set up low balance email notifications free of charge. Secure online payment processing is handled by PayPal. NutriKids will charge a convenience fee of $1.75 per payment. Visit our website for enrollment instructions. FREE AND REDUCED BREAKFAST/Lunch Free and reduced lunch applications are accepted throughout the school year and must be completed each school year. Applications are available on our website, www.joseph-badger.k12.oh.us, at each school office and at the end of this calendar. Income guidelines are also included with the application. Children who are in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, food stamps) or the Ohio Works First Program (OWF) are eligible for free breakfast and lunch although; you must submit a free and reduced application. Applications are due by September 16, 2011. Students in the Free and Reduced Program this past school year will remain in the program on a temporary basis until September 23, 2011, at which time they will be charged regular prices. Applications are accepted any time during the school year should your income change. You may call Carol Johnson, Food Service Director, at 330.876.2810 if you have any questions or need assistance completing the form. Students approved for free and reduced meals will have all school fees waived for the 2011 – 2012 school year. NUTRITION Serving nutritional meals is a priority for Badger Food Service, which was confirmed by the ODE review in 2010. For example we serve whole grain breads, steamed vegetables without added butter or salt, and fresh vegetables daily. This coming year there will be changes to the ala carte and vending selections to reflect more nutritional offerings. CONGRATULATIONS Badger Food Service Coloring Contest Winners Chosen by High School and Middle School Students Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, is available to all students PK-12. Breakfast provides energy and nutrition which leads to increased concentration in the classroom.
