Died 23 rd March 1918. Born Uckfield, Sussex. Enlisted Tenterden. Resided Hamilton House,<br />
Rolvenden, Ashford, <strong>Kent</strong>. Frederick has no known grave. His name appears on the Pozieres<br />
Memorial, Somme, France. Panel reference – 16.<br />

Private G/5116 Frederick William RICHARDS. 7 th Batalion, The Buffs (East <strong>Kent</strong> Regiment).<br />
On the 23 rd March 1918 the 7 th Buffs were in the vicinity of Vendeuil to the South of St Quentin.<br />
The last great German Spring Offensive had started 2 days earlier and the British army was in full<br />
retreat from the Southern Somme battlefields. The 7 th Buffs were given the difficult task of fighting<br />
a rearguard action. The Buffs HQ was at Clarence Keep close to the Vendeuil-Remigny Road.<br />
