In November 1917 the 1 st Buffs were resting at Monchy Breton 12 miles west of Mazingarbe in<br />

France. On the 1 st November the 1 st Buffs marched to Grand Bouret and there met the 6 th Buffs.<br />

The battalion was not in action at this time. George is listed as killed in action.<br />

Private T/203078 Albert BLACKMAN. 4 th Battalion, The Buffs (East <strong>Kent</strong> Regiment). Died<br />

Thursday 27 th December 1917 India. Born Hawkhurst. Enlisted Blackheath, London. Albert has<br />

no known grave. His name appears on the Madras 1914-1918 War Memorial, Chennai, India.<br />

The 4 th battalion was a territorial Buffs battalion. It moved from India to Aden and disembarked<br />

there on the 4 th August 1915. It is not known how Albert came to lose his life. It seems likely that<br />

Albert remained in India when his battalion moved to Aden in 1915. He may have died of disease<br />

or in an accident.<br />
