SMALL C Private G/5135 Charles SMALL. 8 th Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Died Saturday 20 th May 1916 aged 34 years. Born Rolvenden. Enlisted Tenterden. Resided Rolvenden. Son of Alfred William and Jane Small of Hatters Hill Cottages, Rolvenden, Kent. Buried in the Berks Cemetery Extension, Hainaut, Belgium. Grave reference II.D.8. On the 1st January 1916 the 8 th battalion was at La Panne in France resting. On the 14 th January they moved to trenches in the Ypres Sector of Belgium. Casualties were light but the battalion lost men continuously. They remained in the Ypres area until June alternating between frontline trenches and billets at Poperinghe. 39
