Great Hope
This week, we bring you the
second season of the popular
documentary series Hope for
Wildlife (Tuesday at 7pm),
which follows the adventures
at a Nova Scotia wildlife rehab
centre. Hope Swiminer, who
runs the centre, took in her
first rehab animal in 1995 – a
robin that had been attacked
by a cat. The vets at the animal
hospital where she worked
didn’t know what to do with it,
so she took it home and started
doing research on caring
for injured wildlife. With just
a few cages in the backyard,
and a room in her house for a
nursery, Hope rehabbed about
40 animals in her first year.
Since then, the Hope for Wildlife
Society has grown to over
75 volunteers and rehabilitates
over 1,500 animals per year.
