Alberts, Boutique luxury. Your friendly team of specialists, sharing o Natasha Harris nee Lipscombe was a cheeky, curly blonde haired three year old when she acquired her unique nickname. Growing up in Ardmore on the family strawberry farm, the juice of the sweet fruit staining her face and white t-shirt, when asked by her mother Margaret “ask dad to bring the washing in,” from the top of the stairs, Tasha called out to her father Len “Yo, Fat Albert, mum wants you to bring the washing in!” Natasha wasn’t insulting her dad. - Bill Cosby’s show Fat Albert was her absolute favourite TV programme. Len called back “Don’t you call me Fat Albert, I’ll call you Albert!” He did and from that day, so did everyone else. In her teenage years even her big brother Karl’s rugby team called her Albert. With the nickname firmly stuck Natasha remained ‘Albert’ throughout her childhood. So it made perfect sense when Natasha opened her first salon in Papakura in October 1997 that it should be called Alberts. Natasha relocated Alberts to 2 / 23 Hall St Pukekohe in August last year, closing the original Papakura site and focusing on recreating the brand that Alberts represents. 2 elocal .co.nz Support your local business www.elocal.co.nz Now six months on the salon is going extremely well. “I have found it really easy to get great staff here in Pukekohe. Though some are originally from the area, we have also drawn in stylists from out of town. Our original team of five when we opened has now grown to eight. Over the years I have learnt that having the right team is crucial to the ultimate client journey and the overall success of the business.” Natasha fondly refers to her team as Alberts Angels. “We really do have a special group of talented hardworking and fun individuals. “I feel very fortunate to absolutely enjoy what I do for a job.” Natasha knows exactly what clients want from their salon experience at Alberts “I expect my team to be in touch with the industry and the constant changes that seasons and fashion bring, and to pass this on to our clients.” Natasha believes that our hair should be an extension of our personalities and just as we buy a new garment or pair of shoes for a change in season, we need to adapt our hairstyle, we offer our clients a road map for their journey at Alberts and making a plan for their hair’s journey. Kylie Thompson: “As a teenager I was always interested in hair, make up and fashion, which has developed into an amazing career in hairdressing. I was a fresh faced 14 year old when I started my first job in a local hair salon, sweeping floors. Nine years later I’m still growing in the industry and Alberts is the perfect environment for me to extend that further. At Alberts we are like a family and always enjoy our jobs. The highlights of my career to date is being asked to take part in Air New Zealand Fashion week, working at GHD expert tour and working at GHD seminars amoung Australasia’s best hairdressers. Without Alberts I wouldn’t have been given these great opportunities! Thanks Albert. ” Carmen Wilson: “I have been hairdressing for about nine years. I am very passionate about my work, and by paying close attention and getting to know my clients, I can bring to them an exceptional experience while creating the perfect style. Over the last three years I have been attending courses and seminars with hairdressers from Australia and Paris. The courses place emphasis on cuts and colours, and all the latest trends and catwalk fashions, which has helped me give my clients the latest styles to suit them and their needs. I enjoy working at Alberts and am very lucky to have the opportunity to learn and grow in all areas of hair and makeup.” Belinda Quigley: “At 16, I graduated as a professional make up artist and started at Alberts as a 1st year apprentice in 2009, where the team has made me feel so welcome. I chose this career because I love to make people feel and look great. I work with Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup, which is antibacterial, and has UVA and UVB protection in all the mineral makeup, right down to the lipsticks! Jane Iredale is simple to use at home, giving you flawless salon results every time. It’s perfect for special occasions, such as weddings and balls. I am very confident and passionate about this industry and feel lucky to have the opportunity to give my best in such an exciting career!” Clark Sowman: “My true interest in hairdressing was sparked when I went to watch the Wella Young Professional Stylist awards. The competitive atmosphere and artistic flair inspired the passion in me. I immediately enrolled and spent two years at the Servilles Academy of Hairdressing, which established a solid foundation to start my career. Watching the hair evolve with shape, texture, colour and style, and having the client feel great is extremely rewarding. Alberts has given me the opportunity to really apply and advance my skills. Natasha has created a stunning, fl owing salon, with such a dynamic and cohesive team.
