April 1987 Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) is established.<br />

March 1988 New stations are established on the Tokaido Shinkansen (Shin-Fuji,<br />

Kakegawa, Mikawa-Anjo).<br />

JR Tokai Bus Company is established (now a consolidated<br />

subsidiary). In April automobile transport business was transferred to<br />

the company.<br />

March 1989 New-model DMU is introduced to the “Hida” Express on the<br />

Takayama line.<br />

February 1990 JR Central starts topographical and geological surveys along entire<br />

proposed route of the Chuo Shinkansen between Tokyo and Osaka<br />

following orders of the Minister of Transport.<br />

June JR Central applies to the Minister of Transport for the approval of plans<br />

to build the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line and approval is received.<br />

October 1991 JR Central takes over the Tokaido Shinkansen facilities.<br />

March 1992 The first “Nozomi” (Series 300) begins commercial operation on the<br />

Tokaido Shinkansen.<br />

July JR Tokai Hotels Co., Ltd. is established (now a consolidated subsidiary).<br />

December JR Central Department Store Co., Ltd. is established. Company name<br />

changed to JR Tokai Takashimaya Co., Ltd. in September 1997 (now<br />

a consolidated subsidiary).<br />

June 1994 JR Central Building Co., Ltd. is established (now a consolidated<br />

subsidiary).<br />

April 1997 Running tests start on the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line.<br />

October JR Central lists on the first section of the Nagoya, Tokyo and Osaka<br />

stock exchanges and also the Kyoto Stock Exchange (merged with the<br />

Osaka Stock Exchange in March 2001).<br />

March 1999 New Series 700 is introduced to “Nozomi” on the Tokaido Shinkansen.<br />

December Construction of JR Central Towers is completed.<br />

March 2000 JR Nagoya Takashimaya opens (operated by JR Tokai Takashimaya<br />

Co., Ltd.).<br />

May Nagoya Marriot Associa Hotel opens (operated by JR Tokai Hotels<br />

Co., Ltd.).<br />

March 2001 JR Tokai Real Estate Co., Ltd. is established (now a consolidated<br />

subsidiary).<br />

December JR Central is excluded from the jurisdiction of the JR Law through the<br />

enactment of amendment to the JR Law.<br />

July 2002 A new research center is constructed at Komaki City in Aichi<br />

Prefecture.<br />

October 2003 The new Shinagawa Shinkansen station opens. The timetable is<br />

drastically revised by the upgrading of the maximum speed on all<br />

Tokaido Shinkansen trains to 270km/h.<br />

July 2005 The Japan National Railways (JNR) Settlement Headquarters, an<br />

independent division within the Japan Railway Construction, Transport<br />

and Technology Agency (JRTT), sells 600,000 shares in JR Central.<br />

March 2006 New Automatic Train Control (ATC) system is introduced into the<br />

Tokaido Shinkansen.<br />

April JR Central repurchases 268,686 shares of its common stock following a<br />

resolution of the Board of Directors as authorized under the company’s<br />

Articles of Incorporation.<br />

The JNR Settlement Headquarters within the JRTT completes the sale of<br />

its entire shares in JR Central by selling 286,071 shares of common<br />

stock of the company.<br />

January <strong>2007</strong> Application for changes of “Yamanashi Test Line Construction Plan” was<br />

approved by the Minster of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.<br />
