Marilyn A. Prasun, R.N., Ph.D.
Dr. Prasun, an advanced practice nurse in the cardiology at Carle Clinic,
earned her Ph.D. in nursing science from the University of Illinois at
Chicago in 2002. As a clinical instructor, her responsibilities include
development of electives, lectures, and seminars for students; serving
as a research mentor to residents; lecturing for the M-2 Fundamental
Clinical Problems course; and serving as a judge for the clinical
vignette competition. She is also involved with the clinical correlation
conferences for M-1 students. Dr. Prasun’s research interests include
heart failure, biochemical markers, quality of life, and atrial fibrillation.
Murray J. Propes, M.D.
Dr. Propes received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University
School of Medicine in Springfield in 1999. He completed both an
internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Illinois
College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Propes is a staff
physician in adult medicine at Carle Clinic. As a clinical instructor,
he participates in the Objective Structured Clinical Examination for
residents and is a lecturer for both the residency noon conference
and the M-2 Fundamental Clinical Problems course. Dr. Propes is also
involved in the supervision of clerkships and the development of
electives. In addition, he acts as a research mentor to residents and a
teaching attending for students and residents. His research interests
include coronary artery disease, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and
immunology as applied to medicine.
Satyanarayana G. Raju, D.O., Ph.D.
Dr. Raju earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Indian Institute of
Science in Bangalore, India, in 1985 and a D.O. from the University of
Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa, in
1996. He completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation
at the University of Louisville Frazier Rehabilitation Institute in
Louisville, Kentucky. He is a staff physician with the Department of
Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System in Danville. As a clinical
instructor at the COM-UC, he supervises student clerkships and teaches
student clerkship electives. In addition, Dr. Raju lectures for the noon
conference series and serves as a teaching attending for residents.
His research interests include musculoskeletal medicine and cardiac
rehabilitation. Dr. Raju is a member of the American Medical
Association and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation.
Nicole Roberts, M.S., Ed.A.
Ms. Roberts earned her master’s degree from Illinois State University
in Normal in 1994 and is currently a doctoral candidate in educational
policy studies. She is a teaching associate and manager of the Carle
Foundation Hospital Graduate Medical Education Department. Her
research interests include leadership development for physicians, and
she is actively involved in teaching leadership skills to Carle faculty and
working with the family practice residency. Ms. Roberts is a member
of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education and a recipient of the
Merck/Alliance for Continuing Medical Education Professional
Development Fellowship.
Pathannjali Saravanan, M.D. (Photo not available)
Dr. Saravanan is a staff physician in internal medicine with Provena
Physician Partners of Savoy as well as a staff physician at the McKinley
Health Center on the UIUC campus. He earned his medical degree in
1991 from the Madras Medical College at the University of Madras,
Madras, India. His teaching responsibilities include history and physical
instruction for M-2 students as well as serving as a clinical vignette
competition judge and a teaching attending for students and residents.
Dr. Saravanan is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Nasreen Syed, M.D.
Dr. Syed received her medical degree in 1994 from the Jawaharlal
Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER)
in Pondicherry, India. She completed a rotating internship with the
JIPMER Hospital and an internal medicine residency with the University
of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Syed is an
internist specializing in adult medicine at Carle Clinic. As a clinical
instructor, she participates in the Medical Doctor Advisor program
for M-1 students, serves as a teaching attending for students and
residents, is a residency noon conference lecturer, and participates in
the Objective Structured Clinical Examination for residents. She is also
involved in the supervision of clerkships, teaching and development of
electives, student evaluation, history and physical instruction for M-2
students, and the clinical vignette competition. Dr. Syed is a member
of the American Medical Association and is certified by the American
Board of Internal Medicine.
