ADVISORY NOTE 4: AGED/INVALID PATIENTS
AT ECHS POLYCLINICS
1. Refer to Central Org letter No B/49701-PR/AG/ECHS dated 15 Mar 2007 and B/49701
PR/AG/ECHS dated 19 nov 2007.
2. A number of representations have been received seeking special treatment for vary senior
(aged/infirm./invalid) patients at ECHS polyclinics. While the present policy caters for priority in
treatment for senior citizen (male above 75 and female above 70), it has been learnt that they still have
to queue-up for reception/consultation albeit in a different queue.
3. No provision exists for special consideration in respect of very senior (aged/infirm/invalid)
patients. It is therefore advised that the Stn Cdr may institute measures to alleviate the problem of this
category of patients.
4. Case study of ‘X’ Polyclinic Stn Cdr in respect of ‘X’ Polyclinic instituted a system where in
very aged/infirm patients come and wait while sitting in an earmarked area. Nursing assistant/peon
takes their card/treatment book. They are called for registration and thereafter consultation. A simple
step instituted by a responsive Stn Cdr greatly improved the satisfaction level amongst very aged
veterans. A few veterans above 80 yrs however refuse to join these ‘sitting sissies’
5. It is not the intention to enforce a template solution. However, based on the situation obtained in
ECHS Polyclinics with respect to load and staffing Stn Cdrs may consider instituting such a system
which takes care of the needs of the ages veterans.
