HRSG: cutting edge technology &
high-calibre production facilities
A total of 370 energy recovery plants situated around the world have been installed by
DOOSAN’s HRSG Division which specialises in manufacturing HRSG units to form
the core components of any combined thermal power plant, WIP reports.

Not many people realise DOOSAN also
has extensive experience in supplying
HRSG. The company has its own HRSG
centres in Korea and Vietnam with a
production capacity over 40 units per
year.
The company has also received 13
Certificates of Authorisation from the
ASME, allowing the company to use the
ASME Code stamp for components and was
awarded ISO 9000 series and ISO 14000
certifications for all its power plants
components including, HRSG.
DOOSAN’s HRSG Division specialises in
manufacturing HRSG to form one of the
core components of a combined thermal
power plant. It manufactures
corresponding boilers for its national
combined thermal power plants in places
such as Boryeong, Busan, and also supplies
various power plants in Europe, Asia and
even Africa.
Energy recovery heat exchangers like
these are designed to recovers heat from
a hot gas stream. An HRSG unit produces
steam which can be used in a process or
used to drive a steam turbine.
A common application for an HRSG is in
a combined-cycle power station, where
hot exhaust from a gas turbine is fed to
an HRSG to generate steam which in turn
drives a steam turbine. This combination
produces electricity more efficiently than
either the gas turbine or steam turbine
alone.
Another application for an HRSG is in
diesel engine combined cycle power
plants, where hot exhaust from a diesel
engine, as primary source of energy, is fed
to an HRSG to generate steam which, in
turn, drives a steam turbine.
The HRSG is also an important
component in cogeneration plants. All
cogeneration plants typically have a higher
overall efficiency in comparison to a
combined cycle plant. This is due to the
loss of energy associated with the steam
turbine.
DOOSAN’s most famous HRSGs include
the Peterhead Combined Cycle Plant in
the UK, EPM La Sierra in Colombia, Al
Ezzel CCP in Bahrain and LG Bugok II in
Korea. At each location, the plant
consists of three major components.
These are the Evaporator, Superheater,
and Economiser. DOOSAN puts the
different components together to meet
the particular operating requirements of
the unit in a particular country.
The company has so far supplied around
370 units of HRSG for combined cycle
power plants around the globe.
