Today is International Women's Day. Are you saying that they don't
celebrate it overseas?
A: 我 从 来 没 听 说 过 这 个 节 日 。 为 什 么 三 月 八 号 是 妇 女 节 啊 ?

B: 这 是 为 了 纪 念 一 百 多 年 前 三 月 八 日 , 纽 约 女 工 游 行 , 为 自 己 争 取 平 等 的
工 作 待 遇 。 久 而 久 之 , 全 世 界 很 多 国 家 的 妇 女 都 在 这 天 举 行 类 似 的 活 动
。1949 年 新 中 国 一 成 立 , 政 府 就 把 三 月 八 日 定 为 妇 女 节 , 全 国 女 性 放 假
半 天 。 在 这 一 天 还 有 各 种 庆 祝 和 纪 念 活 动 呢 。
zhè shì wèile jìniàn yībǎiduō nián qián sānyuè bārì, Niǔyuē nǚgōng
yóuxíng, wèi zìjǐ zhēngqǔ píngděng de gōngzuò dàiyù。 jiǔérjiǔzhī,
quán shìjiè hěn duō guójiā de fùnǚ dōu zài zhè tiān jǔxíng lèisì de
huódòng。 949 nián xīn Zhōngguó yī chénglì, zhèngfǔ jiù bǎ sānyuè

It's to commemorate March 8th, over 100 years ago, when female
workers marched in their quest for equal treatment in the workforce.
Over time, many women of countries all around the world would
hold similar activities on this day. In 1949, as soon as China's new
government was established, it declared March 8th to be Women's

Day. All women in the country get a half-day holiday. On this day
there are also all kinds of celebrations and commemorative activities.
