1 To allow participants to express what they already know about key<br />
concepts related to gender mainstreaming.<br />
2 To come to a clear understanding <strong>of</strong> the strategies <strong>of</strong> gender<br />
mainstreaming and gender equity in achieving gender equality.<br />
3 To identify monitoring indicators that can track the progress <strong>of</strong> gender<br />
mainstreaming in organisations/institutions<br />
4 To assist participants to understand the importance <strong>of</strong> involving both<br />
men and women in development.<br />

Preparation<br />
1 Read the handouts and procedures carefully before the session so that<br />
you are thoroughly familiar with the subject matter and proposed<br />
methodology.<br />
2 Prepare sufficient photocopies <strong>of</strong> the handouts for each participant.<br />
3 Download the PowerPoint presentation.<br />
4 Write the objectives <strong>of</strong> the session on a flipchart.<br />
Procedures<br />
1 Briefly share the objectives <strong>of</strong> the session on the flipchart/PowerPoint<br />
presentation with participants.<br />
2 Ask participants to say what they know about the term ‘gender<br />
mainstreaming’ and its relationship to gender equality. Use the<br />
whiteboard or flipchart sheets to list their comments.<br />
3 Ask participants to say how they would know that their organisation<br />
had integrated gender in its work.<br />
4 Go through the PowerPoint presentation to explain that gender<br />
mainstreaming and gender equity are both strategies for achieving<br />
gender equality and to give some examples <strong>of</strong> gender mainstreaming<br />
indicators.<br />
