marriage.<br />
2 To identify the influential factors sustaining inequality between women<br />

3 To recognize the terms ‘socialisation’ and ‘patriarchy’.<br />

Preparation<br />
1 Read the lesson plan and handouts carefully before the session so that<br />
you are thoroughly familiar with the subject matter and proposed<br />
methodology.<br />
2 Prepare the subject matter for the role plays so that each group will<br />
have one role play to present.<br />
3 Prepare sufficient photocopies <strong>of</strong> the handouts to distribute to<br />
participants.<br />
4 Write the objectives <strong>of</strong> the session on a flipchart.<br />
5 Download the PowerPoint presentation.<br />
Procedures<br />
1 Briefly share the objectives <strong>of</strong> the session on the flipchart with<br />
participants.<br />
2 Remind the participants <strong>of</strong> the learning outcomes <strong>of</strong> the previous<br />
session: we have discovered that women are disadvantaged compared<br />
with men in terms <strong>of</strong> indicators <strong>of</strong> development. Now we will try to<br />
identify the root causes <strong>of</strong> this situation.<br />
3 Divide the participants into five groups, ensuring that both women and<br />
men are included in each group. Ask the participants to prepare their<br />
role plays in light <strong>of</strong> their experiences and the existing realities in<br />
Rwanda.<br />
