TINAM VALK, thru January. Landscapes and
architectural details are the preferred subjects
of Tinam Valk. Her technique of layering with
modeling paste, underpainting and
drawing with charcoal, pencil, and pastel as
she erases and rebuilds surfaces, recapitulates
the imprint of time. In Rue Babacar III, the
view recedes through successive arches and
offset doorways, diminishing in scale until
there is nothing more to see. Our attention
is held by the story told by weathered walls,
rather than by human actors.
