January 5 – February 24: Assembled. Five
Montgomery County artists: Susan Feller, Ellen
Hill, Dominie Nash, Carien Quiroga, and Hillary
Steel use a variety of assemblage processes
in their work. Susan Feller uses encaustic
wax to create variations on portals or openings,
with contrasts and subtle textures. Ellen
Hill assembles multiple tiny bits of painted,
inked and carved wood on panels that evoke
colorful interwoven threads or digital pixilation.
Dominie Nash’s collograph prints on
fabric enhanced by hand stitching incorporate
suggestions of natural forms and organic
processes. Carien Qurioga pushes boundaries
in her exploration of the expressive qualities
of material. Hillary Steel uses historical textile
traditions and ikat and shibori resist dyeing
processes to create hand woven wall pieces
which are reassembled into the pieces that are
on view.
