The product development process at Sulzer Mixpac—a business unit within the
Sulzer Chemtech Division—has similarities with the way a top athlete prepares
for competition. There is a defined process to verify properties of new products
made from plastics using the latest analytical tools.

The athlete first defines a training
plan (process)—where to train,
by when to train, but also how to
train. If the basic parameters appear to
be achievable, the top athlete starts with
the training plan. A promising training
plan begins with small training units and
increases in stages. If the goal is a
marathon run, the top athlete measures
his time and his pulse rate while training.
He starts with small distances and
increases these gradually. In this way,
the athlete thereby moves from the target
on the training plan to the actual performance
in the reality of the training.
