3.2 Recognition of Degrees <strong>and</strong> Achievments<br />

A degree, which has been acquired abroad, is not autom<strong>at</strong>ically recognized in Germany. The<br />

Federal Republic of Germany has concluded of bil<strong>at</strong>eral “Agreements on Equivalences in <strong>the</strong><br />

Field of Higher Educ<strong>at</strong>ion” with a number of foreign countries. These agreements regul<strong>at</strong>e <strong>the</strong><br />

recognition of studies, examin<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>and</strong> degrees <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> public use of foreign academic<br />

degrees <strong>and</strong> titles.<br />

3.3 Car<br />

Driving licenses from o<strong>the</strong>r EU- or EEA (Norway, Icel<strong>and</strong>, Liechtenstein) -<br />

countries are accepted throughout Germany. It is your decision if you have it replaced by a<br />

German document or not. If you come from ano<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> above mentioned countries you<br />

have to obtain a German driving license.<br />

You have to convert <strong>the</strong> n<strong>at</strong>ional driving licence into a German driving licence after six<br />

months <strong>at</strong> l<strong>at</strong>est <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> local driving license office (Führerscheinstelle), which can usually be<br />

found in <strong>the</strong> town hall or district hall (Kreisverwaltung).<br />
