You should apply for <strong>the</strong> German driving license in good time (<strong>at</strong> least 3 months before<br />
expiry of <strong>the</strong> set term of six months), because processing takes time. O<strong>the</strong>rwise you will<br />
viol<strong>at</strong>e German law for driving without a valid license. All additional inform<strong>at</strong>ion including<br />

It might be th<strong>at</strong> you have to pass <strong>the</strong> German driving test with a practical <strong>and</strong> a <strong>the</strong>oretical<br />
part (traffic rules). It can be done in o<strong>the</strong>r languages as well. Costs may add up to<br />
approxim<strong>at</strong>ely € 100.00 for <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>oretical examin<strong>at</strong>ion (including teaching m<strong>at</strong>erials in<br />
English) <strong>and</strong> € 24.00 for every driving lesson of 45 minutes. You can contact a driving school<br />
to determine whe<strong>the</strong>r your knowledge is sufficient. If not you will be required to take some<br />
driving lessons.<br />
If your stay in Germany is not temporary - a stay of more than one year will certainly be<br />
considered as such - your car must be registered in Germany. For this you have to go to <strong>the</strong><br />
local motor vehicle registr<strong>at</strong>ion office (Kraftfahrzeugzulassungsstelle), where you can also<br />
