Using modern control center technology – without having to invest in hardware, software and operation? Welcome to ASP! * In traffic engineering, the ASP principle translates to: The provision of the full range of traffic control center applications without the end user having to build, own, operate and maintain the necessary technical control center systems. Instead, the end user can access the applications from a “regular” workstation, for instance, via a highly secure Internet connection. You don’t need to own a fiber optic cable network to profit from a fast Internet connection. The operator owns and operates the network – and the Internet users use it. With our Application Service Providing (ASP) we have now carried this simple principle* over to road traffic control, making advanced Sitraffic® Scala center technology available to the end user. This provides municipal entities on town, city and district level who do not own a traffic center of their own with the opportunity to use highly modern control center technology without having to invest in the associated hardware and software. Especially in time of tight budgets, this is the ideal solution for ensuring the stable operation of the existing traffic control equipment without tying up municipal resources or spending money on extensive new infrastructure. Renting control functions instead of buying a control center – a new type of operator model Operator models have become an almost indispensable tool in today’s traffic management landscape. Our Siemens ASP is also a kind of operator model because the fully equipped traffic center is located on Siemens premises, is owned by Siemens and operated by Siemens. All service and maintenance measures as well as all updates of the center with new software version and the latest technical equipment are the sole responsibility of Siemens as the operator. The customers use – and need to pay for – only the functions agreed in the contract. Hence they need neither IT staff, nor special premises, nor computer hard- and software … From a fault monitoring system for traffic lights to full-scale traffic management center functionality The function range of the Siemens ASP model is scalable. Various performance packages, including traffic situation overview, message sign control and others, can be added to the basic “traffic light monitoring” package. The solution grows in step with the end customer’s needs. The user interfaces are always adapted to the currently contracted scope of performances. This means that a customer using the center as fault monitoring center, for instance, works with a user interface supporting exclusively this function and showing only the operating elements needed for this function. Highly secure access from any computer Customers don’t need special hardware to use our traffic centers in the scope of an ASP contract. The center can be accessed from any Internet-capable Windows computer via the highly secure CWP (Customer Web Portal) platform, which is also used for power stations, hospitals etc. CWP provides highly secure remote access from the Internet to the traffic center. For a safety- and securityrelevant infrastructure system such as traffic control, a simple Web login would certainly not be secure enough. 2
And that is how the control center application works in “ASP mode” Siemens ASP center Control center server • Powerful hardware • Redundant and secured systems • Regularly updated software versions Internet access via secure Siemens technology OCIT profiles GPRS/GSM/DSL/ Ethernet etc. Existing Internet access Field devices with OCIT-GSM Siemens field devices with Sitraffic Canto How your field devices are linked up Controllers are preferably linked up to the Siemens ASP center via Sitraffic Canto-E (Ethernet) or Sitraffic Canto-G (GPRS) profiles. To do this, the devices need only be equipped with a GPRS/UMTS router or an ADSL router. Alternatively, OCIT- GSM can be used for connecting the devices to the center. This ensures that also all OCIT-supporting devices from other manufacturers than Siemens can be linked up to the ASP center. How you access the system You as a user need only log-in in the Customer Web Portal. Access rights are generally assigned to a specific person and associated with a mobile phone number. For identification with the system, the user needs a user name, a password and a so-called “mobile PIN.” The mobile PIN procedure has already proven its usefulness in online banking applications. It involves an access code, which is sent directly to the customer’s registered mobile phone number during each log-in process. This provides a substantially enhanced security level – an important aspect, especially for access to switching functions. Choose your functions The basic package for the use of the traffic center in the scope of an ASP model covers all functions of a fault monitoring center. These are: • GIS map (if requested) • List view • Intersection view for controllers • System history function (graphical overview of signal plan changes) • Automatic maintenance alert via e-mail or SMS • Signal plan changeover • Message archive • Online visualization tools VisuIntersection and VisuSipl (if requested) More functions can be added at any time. For instance: • Traffic situation • Message sign control • Parking guidance system 3
