DMV TITLE AND REGISTRATION HANDBOOK
Chapter K: Damaged/Totaled Vehicles
• If the vehicle is not totaled due to damage, a signed statement to that effect from the insurance company.
• A VIN inspection and fee.
• Appropriate fees (See Chapter N)
REGISTRATION FOR SALVAGE VEHICLES
When the salvage title certificate is issued, the current registration is canceled. Registration is not allowed on
vehicles issued a salvage title certificate. Salvage titled vehicles may not be operated on the highways of the
state. Registration may be applied for after the vehicle is rebuilt and an Oregon title is applied for or issued.
The vehicle will be assigned a new plate number and new expiration date. Registration and a regular Oregon
title may be applied for at the same time or separately. (See Chapter L for more information on how to apply
for registration.)

Be sure all applicable boxes and spaces are filled in.

LINE 1:
• Present Oregon Plate Number: Plate number of vehicle at time of salvage.
• Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): The VIN on the application must match the VIN on the
vehicle and Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin for new vehicles or the title for used vehicles (exceptions
are discussed in Chapter A).
• Oregon Title Number (Gray Shaded Area): If applicable.
