A special memory for Grace is traveling to Heifer International’s Ranch to participate in
their Global Passport program. “This experience opened my eyes to the hardships of life in
underdeveloped areas of the world. I will use these life lessons for years to come.”
A message Grace would like to convey to her classmates, teachers, and community is to laugh and be positive. “With a
good attitude, life is so much more fun. Don’t dwell on negatives; they only hold you back. Be grateful for every single day
RETIREMENTS IN THE DISTRICT
Cathy Olson, Osceola School Board
Retirement message from Timm Johnson, Osceola School Board President
Cathy Olson retired this April from serving 21 years on the Osceola School
Board. Over those 21 years, Cathy demonstrated an unbelievable passion for
education, support for the Osceola School District, and a commitment that all
students regardless of ability, home environment, and lifestyle choices all would
receive the best education possible with the resources available to us.
There have been a lot of changes over those 21 years in education in general
and Osceola in particular. Our school district has grown in student numbers,
the campus has been expanded and staff added, programs and technology
updated, and school fi nancing is defi nitely different than 21 years ago. Through it all, Cathy has had an enviable positive
outlook that all students have a bright future in front of them and that we needed to do our best to prepare them.
The Osceola School District has been very well respected in Northwest Wisconsin as a leader in progressive programming,
as a stable environment for staff and students, and a good district to work in. I can honestly say that Cathy has been
a major part of the success we have achieved, and I have greatly appreciated having the opportunity to serve on the
Osceola School Board with Cathy.
Betsy Morgan
Ms. Betsy Morgan retires after 33 years of teaching in the Osceola School District. Betsy
received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education from Hamline
University and in 1989 received her Master of Arts in Counseling and Psychological Services
from St. Mary’s College. After graduating in 1980, Betsy began her career in Osceola
teaching Title I for 27 years working with Kindergarten through 6th grade. From there she
taught Academic Support for grades 3 - 5 along with 5th grade math for two years and
spent her last four years teaching in a 5th grade classroom. Betsy’s family includes one son,
Michael, daughter-in-law Chasteen, and four grandchildren; Rachel, Alyssa, Ryan, Aaron,
and a great-grandchild due to arrive in July, her parents Ron and Marge Renn, and siblings
Tom, Tim and Merry (& families).
Snow Leopards
Stellars Jay
What Betsy will miss most about teaching
are the everyday moments with students.
“Listening to the sounds of students engaged as they respond with
enthusiasm to learning and the joy of witnessing the growth and changes
of children through the years have brought much delight to my life.”
Throughout her teaching experience, she has learned to be fl exible and
stay present in the moment. “I’ve learned to try new things and laugh!”
When asked about her favorite memory from Osceola, she admits that
there are too many to mention all of them but she will remember them with
laughter and fondness. A few memories that truly stand out are running into
former students who share special memories from her class, remembering
how welcomed she felt when fi rst joining the Osceola staff, and developing
friendships from people she has worked with throughout the years.
During retirement, Betsy plans to spend more time with family and friends,
travel and explore new places, read great books, be creative with cooking
and gardening, and go hiking and kayaking.
summer school. Please see Kids’ Klub materials for more info.
Students entering kindergarten through second grade will work with a different unit and teacher each week. Math and
reading continue to be infused into a variety of topics. Many regular teaching staff, some excellent community resource
people, and regular substitute teachers will provide instruction in a relaxed, enrichment-focused environment. Students in
third through eighth grade will participate in a wide variety of enrichment classes as well. A sampling of classes includes
clay, dance, knitting, kids in the kitchen, lifetime sports, woodworking, and swimming lessons. A summer school expo
featuring completed student projects will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd from 10:00-11:30 a.m. in the OHS Commons area.
The district provides bus service for summer school; however, bus numbers and routes are different from those of the regular
school year. Information regarding schedules and bus routes are included in this newsletter.
Additional information will be included for those students who have swimming lessons as part of their morning. Kids’ Klub will
also be available during summer school.
Any questions regarding summer school may be directed to Peggy Weber at 715-294-3457 (Pre-K through 2nd Grade) or
Rebecca Styles at 715-294-4180 (3rd through 8th Grade.)
The Sprinting Sisters are
back for their 3rd season
of running! The group has
grown to include 53 girls
in 4th through 6th grade.
It is offered to encourage
teambuilding skills, selfesteem,
the importance of
community, and healthy
living through running. The
eight week program started
with a snowy start. We meet
June 8th.
Ms. Erickson, OMS school
counselor and Ms. Kraemer,
club facilitators and are joined by a group of six volunteer coaches. Each practice focuses on a different topic to build
feelings of self-worth and community while running as a group.
The 2013 season of Sprinting Sisters was sponsored by Central Bank’s RiverBuck’s program during the week of May 20th.
Don’t forget to come and cheer on a “sister” at the City of Trails race in June.
