Erratum, page 78:<br />

In<strong>for</strong>mation on page 78 states: “The cost of injuries in First Nations communities is estimated at<br />

$14 billion per year (1993).” This in<strong>for</strong>mation was taken from a report entitled First Nations in<br />

<strong>Alberta</strong>. A Dialogue <strong>for</strong> Action Planning: Addressing the Problem of Injuries prepared by Anna<br />

Auer, Josie Cardinal, Marion Perrin and Wadieh Yacoub, <strong>for</strong> the Regional <strong>Injury</strong> <strong>Control</strong><br />

Committee (RICC) of Health Canada, First Nations and Inuit Branch, AB Region. However, the<br />

figure of $14 billion per year was referring to the costs of injuries <strong>for</strong> all of Canada, not First<br />

Nations communities. The original source <strong>for</strong> the above in<strong>for</strong>mation can be found in a<br />

publication entitled Economic Burden of Illness in Canada, 1993, published by the authority of<br />

the Minister of Health, Health Canada.<br />

Readers should also note that a more recent publication (1998) on the cost of injuries <strong>for</strong> all of<br />

Canada is available on the Health Canada website:<br />
