Martin Senour’s Western region training center provides hands-on training Continued from page 3 readings from the shops compressor, filters, and booth.” Daniel said the success of a waterborne shop is contingent on the owners’ decision to make the necessary upgrades to their shops. “Some upgrades are minor while others are expensive,” he said. “Compressor performance, air-line efficiency, and an adequate booth impact a shop’s production with a waterborne system.” A shop installation includes on-site training by the local Martin Senour representative, he said. “The painter is also scheduled to attend the next Vortex painter certification class at their nearest training center.” Daniel said on-site training consists of spray gun application, product training, and Formula Express website training. “Formula Express is our web-based formula retrieval system,” he said. “A shop installation with on-site training isn’t completed until the shop is comfortable with the product. Our representatives know the importance of training and the impact it has on longterm relationships with our customers.” The Pro/Base system’s complete offering of etch primer, surface cleaner, adhesion promoter, primer, sealers, and clearcoat all using the same hardener is appealing to shops, Daniel said. “The simplicity of the system, along with a solvent basecoat with a color match tool, is the reason for its current and future success.” To further help its customers, Daniel said the Formula Express website gives shops a cost by RO report every time they need it. “The website also records VOCs, which allows shops to run monthly VOC reports,” he said. “The website is updated nightly so that all shops are using an up-to-date system.” NAPA also launched its NAPA AutoCare Collision Performance Group this year, Daniel said. “The shops attend meetings hosted by Elaina Sachire of Square One Systems.” Daniel said Sachire was awarded “Most Influential Woman in the Collision Industry” in 2007. “Shops interested in attending the meetings should contact their local Martin Senour representative,” This NAPA AutoCare Collision Center, Ace Car Reconditioning in Tigard, Ore., uses Martin Senour’s computerized mixing system. he said. Martin Senour also offers complete paint-mixing systems to collision shops, he said. “One very successful NAPA AutoCare Collision Center, Ace Car Reconditioning in Tigard, Ore., uses our computerized mixing system.” Daniel said the Martin Senour line has also benefited from a focused effort by NAPA to sell more paint, including the creation of stand-alone paint, body, and equipment (PBE) stores. “NAPA continues to open stand-alone PBE stores that focus only on the refinish market,” he said, and do not stock any automotive parts. There were 15 stand-alone PBE stores across North America in 2010, Daniel said. “Albuquerque, Fresno, and Sacramento are the three stand-alone store locations for the NAPA Western Region.” An advantage that Daniel said NAPA has over its competitors is its number of locations. “NAPA has more than 6,000 stores, many of them in small towns that other paint suppliers don’t service,” he said. “A number of NAPA stores are open seven days a week and can also provide shops with their aftermarket replacement parts,” he said. “There are four NAPA warehouses in California alone and seven across the western region. This means that NAPA stores can pull Martin Senour product from a nearby warehouse and have it to their customers the same or next day.” As testament to Martin Senour’s success in the PBE market, Daniel said the NAPA western region finished 2010 at 10.1 percent above 2009. “And we’re currently 16.3 percent above last year’s sales through August.” n Page 20 October 2011 Parts & People www.partsandpeople.com
