cordulate or subtruncate at base, 3-nerved (a pair of rather prominent<br />

secondary nerves just below upper margin), inconspicuously<br />

reticulate-veined, membranous, ocellate beneath, glabrous or minutely<br />

pilosulous; peduncles solitary, rarely in pairs, slender, 1.5 to<br />

10 cm. long; bracts setaceous, 3 to 5 mm. long, borne near apex of<br />

peduncle; flowers 2.5 to 4 cm. wide; sepals lance-oblong to linearoblong,<br />

10 to 18 mm. long, 3 to 5 mm. wide, obtuse, green and<br />

usually puberulous without, white within; petals linear-oblong, 8 to<br />

13 mm. long, 2 to 4 mm. wide, obtuse, white; corona filaments in 2<br />

series, the outer filiform, 10 to 15 mm. long, attenuate at apex,<br />

purplish (or white?), the inner linear, 3 to 4 mm. long, about 0.8<br />

mm. wide, broadly capitate and often slightly emarginate; operculum<br />

membranous, closely plicate, incurved, minutely fimbrillate at<br />

margin; limen annular; ovary ovoid, glabrous; fruit globose, rarely<br />

ovoid, 5 to 13 mm. in diameter; seeds narrowly ovate, about 3.5 mm.<br />

long and 2 mm. wide, transversely sulcate, the ridges about 10.<br />
