Calculating the Basic Benefit<br />
Here is an example of how the unreduced Basic Benefit is calculated:<br />

Benefit Variations<br />
If you retire with a reduced benefit, a reduction factor or factors, based on<br />
your age and service credit at the time of retirement, will be applied to your<br />
unreduced Basic Benefit calculation, as shown in the following example:<br />

If you retire with the Survivor Option, a Partial Lump-Sum Option<br />
Payment (PLOP) or the Advance Pension Option, a reduction factor<br />
<strong>for</strong> the option you elect will be applied to your Basic Benefit amount.<br />
Moving to Another Covered<br />
Position? – If you move<br />
to a position covered under<br />
the State Police Officers’<br />
<strong>Retirement</strong> <strong>System</strong> (SPORS),<br />
the <strong>Virginia</strong> Law Officers’<br />
<strong>Retirement</strong> <strong>System</strong> (VaLORS)<br />
or the Judicial <strong>Retirement</strong><br />
<strong>System</strong> (JRS), or to a political<br />
subdivision position eligible<br />
<strong>for</strong> enhanced hazardous duty<br />
coverage, you will come under<br />
the plan provisions of the new<br />
position <strong>for</strong> retirement and<br />
other benefits. In addition,<br />
if you take a refund of your<br />
member contributions and<br />
interest and return to covered<br />
employment with no service<br />
credit in <strong>VRS</strong>, you will be<br />
rehired under Plan 2.<br />
