• Lecture on “Magnetism” (4 hours/week)<br />

• Basics, experimental methods<br />

• Magnetism of atoms and ions<br />

• Magnetism in solids: crystal fields, magnetism of free electrons<br />

• Magnetic interactions<br />

• Collective effects: spin ordering and phase transitions<br />

• Interplay of spins, orbitals, electrons, and structure<br />

• Colossal Magneto-resistance<br />

• Quasi-1D magnetism<br />

• Magnetism and high-temperature superconductivity<br />

Objective: Theoretical and experimental basics on magnetism and magnetic materials,<br />

ranging from basics to current research. Emphasis on interplay of spins, orbitals, electrons,<br />

and structure in complex materials.<br />

Necessary/useful Knowledge: Content of PTP4, MKEP2<br />
