• Lecture on “Digital Circuit Technology“ (4 hours/week)<br />

• Exercises with homework (2 hours/week)<br />

Module Contents:<br />

• Introduction, motivation, history<br />

• Diode, MOS structure, FET and BJT<br />

• Manufacturing technology • Inverter, gates and simple building block<br />

• Latches, flip-flops and clocked circuits, State machines<br />

• Advanced building blocks (Shifters, Counters, Adders, Multiplier)<br />

• Memory components<br />

• Logic styles (CMOS, pass gate, dynamic, differential, ...)<br />

• PALs, CPLDs <strong>und</strong> FPGAs • Introduction to hardware description with Virology.<br />

Objective: Basic knowledge about the manufacturing and the functioning of digital circuits;<br />

ability to design digital circuits using schematic entry or Verilog; <strong>und</strong>erstanding of FPGAs;<br />

overview over some common logic families.<br />
