Biography
Prof. Teng received his BEng degree from Zhejiang University in 1983 and
his PhD degree from the University of Sydney in 1990. He was a Senior
Lecturer at James Cook University in Australia before joining The Hong
Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 1994. He is the author/co-author
of over 140 SCI journal papers which have received some 2,400 non-self
citations according to the Web of Science. Six of these papers are currently
rated as “highly cited papers” by Essential Science Indicators. In addition,
he is the lead author of the book FRP-Strengthened RC Structures that was
published by John Wiley and Sons in 2002. Funding for his research has
come from various sources including the Research Grants Council (RGC)
of Hong Kong, the Innovation and Technology Fund of the Hong Kong SAR
Government and PolyU. In particular, he has won 14 competitive grants
(i.e. GRF grants and CERGs) from RGC as a Principal Investigator over the
past 16 annual rounds. Prof. Teng has given over 50 keynote and invited
presentations at conferences and has received a number of awards for his
research, including the Distinguished Young Scholar Award from the Natural
Science Foundation of China, the State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering
Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers and the IIFC Medal
from the International Institute for FRP in Construction. Prof Teng is the
Editor-in-Chief of the SCI journal Advances in Structural Engineering and a
member of the editorial boards of 5 other SCI journals. He is a Fellow of the
Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and served as the founding President of
the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) from 2003 to 2006.

Biography
Prof. Chan is a Chartered Builder, Engineer, Project Manager, and Surveyor
by profession. He joined the Department of Building and Real Estate in
1996. He has been commissioned by a number of organisations to provide
consultancy services in project management and construction economics.
He has produced over 500 publications in refereed journal papers,
international refereed conference papers, consultancy reports, and other
written outputs. He is an Adjunct Professor of the Queensland University
of Technology, the University of South Australia, and the Bond University
in Australia. He was also a Founding Director of the Construction Industry
Institute, Hong Kong, which is a joint research institution developed by the
industry and the academia.

Biography
Prof. Shen is an active researcher in collaborative work in construction,
supported by information technology. He has managed a large number
of research projects with a total funding over HK$15 million, and has
published extensively in both academic and professional journals. He is
the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Value Management, and a
Certified Value Specialist and Value Management Facilitator recognised by
the Hong Kong SAR Government. He was appointed as a member of the
Built Environment Panel of the Research Assessment Exercise in 2006, and
holds a number of external appointments in academic and professional
institutions worldwide. His future research plan is to explore the viability
of using information and communication technologies to support virtual
value management workshops where participants are located in different
places and different time zones.

Biography
Professor Li obtained his BSc in Earth Sciences and his MSc in Geochemistry
from Nanjing University, and his PhD in Environmental Technology from
Imperial College London. His major research interests include regional
environmental pollution, urban environmental geochemistry and
phytoremediation of contaminated soils. His recent research projects have
mainly focused on environmental changes in the fast developing Pearl River
Delta region, South China. Prof. Li’s research team has been engaged in the
study of trace metals and organic pollutants in soils, sediments, biological
samples and atmospheric particles, including their impacts on human
health and ecological systems. He has been the principal investigator of
nine research projects funded by RGC and the UGC Area of Excellence
Scheme. He has published more than 100 papers, mostly in leading
international journals. Three of his publications have been listed among
the top 1% most cited papers by the Thomson ISI database. His current
research topics consist of the emissions, transport and environmental
fate of metal and organic pollutants, contaminated soil remediation, and
the environmental loadings and implications of emerging pharmaceutical
contaminants on surface water systems.
