Biography<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. Teng received his BEng degree from Zhejiang University <strong>in</strong> 1983 <strong>and</strong><br />
his PhD degree from the University <strong>of</strong> Sydney <strong>in</strong> 1990. He was a Senior<br />
Lecturer at James Cook University <strong>in</strong> Australia before jo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g The Hong<br />
Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) <strong>in</strong> 1994. He is the author/co-author<br />
<strong>of</strong> over 140 SCI journal papers which have received some 2,400 non-self<br />
citations accord<strong>in</strong>g to the Web <strong>of</strong> Science. Six <strong>of</strong> these papers are currently<br />
rated as “highly cited papers” by Essential Science Indicators. In addition,<br />
he is the lead author <strong>of</strong> the book FRP-Strengthened RC Structures that was<br />
published by John Wiley <strong>and</strong> Sons <strong>in</strong> 2002. Fund<strong>in</strong>g for his research has<br />
come from various sources <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Research</strong> Grants Council (RGC)<br />
<strong>of</strong> Hong Kong, the Innovation <strong>and</strong> Technology Fund <strong>of</strong> the Hong Kong SAR<br />
Government <strong>and</strong> PolyU. In particular, he has won 14 competitive grants<br />
(i.e. GRF grants <strong>and</strong> CERGs) from RGC as a Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal Investigator over the<br />
past 16 annual rounds. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Teng has given over 50 keynote <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>vited<br />
presentations at conferences <strong>and</strong> has received a number <strong>of</strong> awards for his<br />
research, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Dist<strong>in</strong>guished Young Scholar Award from the Natural<br />
Science Foundation <strong>of</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a, the State-<strong>of</strong>-the-Art <strong>of</strong> Civil Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Award from the American Society <strong>of</strong> Civil Eng<strong>in</strong>eers <strong>and</strong> the IIFC Medal<br />
from the International Institute for FRP <strong>in</strong> <strong>Construction</strong>. Pr<strong>of</strong> Teng is the<br />
Editor-<strong>in</strong>-Chief <strong>of</strong> the SCI journal Advances <strong>in</strong> Structural Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> a<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the editorial boards <strong>of</strong> 5 other SCI journals. He is a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Hong Kong Institution <strong>of</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eers <strong>and</strong> served as the found<strong>in</strong>g President <strong>of</strong><br />
the International Institute for FRP <strong>in</strong> <strong>Construction</strong> (IIFC) from 2003 to 2006.<br />

Biography<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. Chan is a Chartered Builder, Eng<strong>in</strong>eer, Project Manager, <strong>and</strong> Surveyor<br />
by pr<strong>of</strong>ession. He jo<strong>in</strong>ed the Department <strong>of</strong> Build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> Real Estate <strong>in</strong><br />
1996. He has been commissioned by a number <strong>of</strong> organisations to provide<br />
consultancy services <strong>in</strong> project management <strong>and</strong> construction economics.<br />
He has produced over 500 publications <strong>in</strong> refereed journal papers,<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational refereed conference papers, consultancy reports, <strong>and</strong> other<br />
written outputs. He is an Adjunct Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> the Queensl<strong>and</strong> University<br />
<strong>of</strong> Technology, the University <strong>of</strong> South Australia, <strong>and</strong> the Bond University<br />
<strong>in</strong> Australia. He was also a Found<strong>in</strong>g Director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Construction</strong> Industry<br />
Institute, Hong Kong, which is a jo<strong>in</strong>t research <strong>in</strong>stitution developed by the<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry <strong>and</strong> the academia.<br />

Biography<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. Shen is an active researcher <strong>in</strong> collaborative work <strong>in</strong> construction,<br />
supported by <strong>in</strong>formation technology. He has managed a large number<br />
<strong>of</strong> research projects with a total fund<strong>in</strong>g over HK$15 million, <strong>and</strong> has<br />
published extensively <strong>in</strong> both academic <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional journals. He is<br />
the President <strong>of</strong> the Hong Kong Institute <strong>of</strong> Value Management, <strong>and</strong> a<br />
Certified Value Specialist <strong>and</strong> Value Management Facilitator recognised by<br />
the Hong Kong SAR Government. He was appo<strong>in</strong>ted as a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Built <strong>Environment</strong> Panel <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Research</strong> Assessment Exercise <strong>in</strong> 2006, <strong>and</strong><br />
holds a number <strong>of</strong> external appo<strong>in</strong>tments <strong>in</strong> academic <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
<strong>in</strong>stitutions worldwide. His future research plan is to explore the viability<br />
<strong>of</strong> us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>and</strong> communication technologies to support virtual<br />
value management workshops where participants are located <strong>in</strong> different<br />
places <strong>and</strong> different time zones.<br />

Biography<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Li obta<strong>in</strong>ed his BSc <strong>in</strong> Earth Sciences <strong>and</strong> his MSc <strong>in</strong> Geochemistry<br />
from Nanj<strong>in</strong>g University, <strong>and</strong> his PhD <strong>in</strong> <strong>Environment</strong>al Technology from<br />
Imperial College London. His major research <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong>clude regional<br />
environmental pollution, urban environmental geochemistry <strong>and</strong><br />
phytoremediation <strong>of</strong> contam<strong>in</strong>ated soils. His recent research projects have<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>ly focused on environmental changes <strong>in</strong> the fast develop<strong>in</strong>g Pearl River<br />
Delta region, South Ch<strong>in</strong>a. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Li’s research team has been engaged <strong>in</strong> the<br />
study <strong>of</strong> trace metals <strong>and</strong> organic pollutants <strong>in</strong> soils, sediments, biological<br />
samples <strong>and</strong> atmospheric particles, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g their impacts on human<br />
health <strong>and</strong> ecological systems. He has been the pr<strong>in</strong>cipal <strong>in</strong>vestigator <strong>of</strong><br />
n<strong>in</strong>e research projects funded by RGC <strong>and</strong> the UGC Area <strong>of</strong> <strong>Excellence</strong><br />
Scheme. He has published more than 100 papers, mostly <strong>in</strong> lead<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational journals. Three <strong>of</strong> his publications have been listed among<br />
the top 1% most cited papers by the Thomson ISI database. His current<br />
research topics consist <strong>of</strong> the emissions, transport <strong>and</strong> environmental<br />
fate <strong>of</strong> metal <strong>and</strong> organic pollutants, contam<strong>in</strong>ated soil remediation, <strong>and</strong><br />
the environmental load<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>and</strong> implications <strong>of</strong> emerg<strong>in</strong>g pharmaceutical<br />
contam<strong>in</strong>ants on surface water systems.<br />
