Electric Distribution Companies<br />
Eleven electric distribution companies (EDCs) currently serve the electrical<br />
energy needs of the majority of <strong>Pennsylvania</strong>'s homes, businesses and industries.<br />
Cooperatives and municipal systems provide service to several rural and urban<br />
areas. The 11 jurisdictional EDCs (nine systems) are:<br />
1. Citizens' Electric Company<br />
2. Duquesne Light Company<br />
3. Metropolitan Edison Company (FirstEnergy)<br />
4. <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> Electric Company (FirstEnergy)<br />
5. <strong>Pennsylvania</strong> Power Company (FirstEnergy)<br />
6. PPL Electric Utilities Corporation<br />
7. PECO Energy Company (Exelon)<br />
8. Pike County Light & Power Company (Orange & Rockland Utilities Inc.)<br />
9. UGI Utilities Inc.<br />
10. Wellsboro Electric Company<br />
11. West Penn Power Company (Allegheny Energy Inc.)<br />

Due to the deregulation of electric generation, local generating resources<br />
are now available to the competitive wholesale market. During their rate-cap or<br />
transition periods, the EDCs either entered into long-term contracts for power from<br />
traditional resources with affiliates or other generation suppliers or purchased<br />
