Don’t forget, the government has
abolished the long-standing practice
of interim pay rises. They have
abolished the commencement date
of arbitrated results being 1 July, and
they are considering abolishing and
merging unions to make conditions
harder for us at the Police Union.
We are expecting a wage offer any day.
We will continue to negotiate in good
faith, however the day will come when
even our faith will erode, and we may
contemplate action.
Let me be very clear. We are not
asking the world. We are only asking
for a fair wage offer in line with
teachers and nurses, and we haven’t
even received this.
AT CONFERENCE
This week at Conference, we will all
have the chance to speak with each
other and discuss tactics. I will talk
further about plans we have already set
in motion.
Remember to ask yourself what you
are prepared to do for a decent wage
offer, because if we do nothing, we will
get what we’re given. If we take action,
there may be a personal cost to us all.
This government may be flat broke, but
we’re only asking for a fair deal.
So remember: what are you prepared
to risk for your mates?
