A TRIBUTE

OIC Gordonvale station
I had the privilege of being Gene’s
supervisor while at Gordonvale
station. Although his supervisor, I can
say that I learnt more from Gene about
dedication and professionalism than I
ever could have imparted on him.
Gene was always first at work and was
often last to leave.

the backyard with his kids prior to their
bedtime.
If he believed someone was good
for an offence, he would leave no
stone unturned in building a brief and
eventually charging the suspect.
Gene was the first to volunteer
for additional responsibilities and
taskings, if for no other reason

was as trustworthy as they come.

Although we were seated on opposite
sides of the station, I knew the exact

because the obscenities would start.
As with all of us, Gene struggled
with QPrime, yet it was nothing a few
choice words, a litre of Ice Break, and a
homemade muffin couldn’t fix.
Quite often the only thing dragging
Gene away from the desk at the end
than that he didn’t like seeing his
Gordonvale colleagues loaded up with
more work.
He was a man not driven by aspirations
of promotion, but instead driven by the
belief that he was doing his bit to clean
up the streets.
More importantly, Gene was the sort
of mate you never forget. Nothing was
an issue. He would give you his right
I am not ashamed to say that I raise
my children using methods I saw Gene
use on his kids. To all who knew him,
he was an awesome Dad.
The streets of Gordonvale are certainly
a better place as a result of Gene’s
commitment and dedication. We here
at Gordonvale station will always
remember him fondly.
