Letters to the Editor
also lan Park and Marcus Brown for
their assistance.
As an aside to the focus of this
letter, I want to relate a recent
event of idiocy. After retirement, I
received a letter from the Assistant
Commissioner of Central Region,
informing me that an investigation in
which I was implicated had been filed
as ‘unfinalised’ due to my retirement.
The letter then goes on to say
that should I wish to rejoin the
Queensland Police Service in the
future, the investigation would be
re-commenced. Having reached the
compulsory retirement age, why
would I consider rejoining?
My only wish for the membership is
for sanity to return to a now insane
police Service.
Best regards
Brian Cumming
Ex Sarina traffic branch
Thankfully, their efforts have enabled
me to put a very difficult situation
behind me (a situation I am totally
responsible for). I can now move
forward in my loved profession:
policing.
I’ve also been very fortunate to
experience nothing but honesty and
support from the Queensland Police
Service, including the Commissioner,
Deputy Commissioners, Assistant
Commissioner O’Regan, my many
Inspectors, and most importantly,
my line supervisor Senior Sergeant
Poole.
They all had responsibilities they
were required to meet, and yet they
dealt with me in nothing other than
professionalism and understanding.
I want to thank them for this, and for
their transparency during the entire
process.
To the Union, Mick Gerrard, Peter
Thomas, and Calvin Gnech, I would
also like to thank them for their
support and efforts during this time.
in recent years during the various
EB negotiations on behalf of all
members.
I am proud to have been a member
of the Queensland Police Service
during these years, along with being
a member of the Police Union.
Once again a big thank you to the
General President and Executive
members of the Queensland Police
Union and I wish you all the very best
in future years.
Kind Regards
Dear Editor
I have always advocated the need
to be represented by a Union, firstly
when I was a shearer and jackaroo,
and then when I joined the South
Australian Police Force way back in
1987.
Fortunately for me, I’ve never had
to call upon my Union to assist me
previously, but that changed in 2007.
Having been a financial member for
over 20 years, people may ask why I
felt it necessary to continue paying
my dues.
I can tell you that you will never
know when things can go wrong,
either due to your own negligence,
or through something out of your
control. Fortunately (or unfortunately,
depending how you look at it), I did
have to call upon the services of the
Union.
I say to anyone considering not
being a member of the Union: please
reconsider. You never know when
things could turn, and without the
Union’s support, we are at the mercy
of the public’s knee jerk reaction and
over expectations.
Dear Editor
I wish to advise that as of today,
25 July, I officially retire from the
Queensland Police Service due to
attaining the age of 60 years after
almost 38 years of service throughout
Queensland.
I congratulate the Union on the
magnificent work it has done
over many years and especially
